Living Room Makeover

About This Project

Living Room Transformation Creates a Spacious Family Space

Creating more usable space within a home does not always require a major extension. In this recent property transformation, we removed the dividing wall between two front rooms to create one larger, welcoming living room designed around the needs of the family.

The original layout consisted of two separate, relatively small rooms. By opening up the space and carrying out a series of additional improvements, we were able to create a larger and more practical living area that feels brighter, more spacious and considerably more inviting.

Removing the Dividing Wall

The main part of the project involved removing the existing dividing wall between the two front rooms. Opening up the rooms created a much larger footprint, providing the family with a more versatile area for relaxing and spending time together.

Removing an internal wall can have a dramatic effect on how a home feels. Rather than having furniture, movement and everyday activities restricted by separate rooms, the new layout provides a greater sense of openness while retaining the comfort expected from a family living room.

Where structural alterations are involved, appropriate planning and professional workmanship are essential. The affected areas were carefully dealt with as part of the wider renovation to ensure the finished room looked cohesive rather than simply appearing as two rooms that had been joined together.

Blocking Up the Exterior Door and Internal Doorway

As part of the redesign, the existing exterior door and one internal doorway were blocked up. The former external doorway was insulated, boarded and plastered to create a finished wall surface that integrated with the rest of the room.

Importantly, the existing window above the former external door was retained. This allowed natural light to continue entering the newly created living space while the redundant doorway was removed.

Keeping as much natural light as possible was an important consideration in the transformation. It helped ensure that the larger room remained bright and welcoming rather than feeling enclosed following the alterations.

Professional Plastering and Finishing

Once the structural and layout changes had been completed, the affected sections of the walls and ceiling were boarded and plastered. This created smooth surfaces ready for the final decorative work.

Good plastering is an important part of any room renovation because it provides the foundation for a high-quality finish. Uneven surfaces and poorly blended areas can be particularly noticeable in a large open room, so careful preparation was essential to achieving a consistent result throughout the living space.

New Lighting and Interior Decoration

New lighting was installed to enhance the transformed room and provide suitable illumination throughout the larger space. Effective lighting can make a significant difference to the atmosphere of a living room, particularly where the area needs to work for both everyday family life and relaxing in the evening.

The walls were then painted to give the room a fresh, clean appearance. This helped bring the newly created space together and provided a neutral backdrop for furniture and other interior features.

To complete the renovation, a new plush carpet was installed. The soft flooring adds warmth and comfort while helping create the cosy, homely atmosphere the clients wanted from their new living room.

A Complete Living Room Makeover

The completed project has completely changed how the property can be used. What were previously two smaller front rooms have become one spacious family living area with improved flow, fresh finishes and a more welcoming atmosphere.

By combining internal wall removal, doorway alterations, insulation, plastering, lighting, painting and new flooring, we were able to deliver a complete living room transformation rather than simply making one structural change.

The finished space is now larger, brighter and more versatile, providing the family with a comfortable area for relaxing, entertaining and spending quality time together.

If you are considering removing an internal wall, opening up two rooms or completely renovating your living room, professional planning and workmanship can help turn an outdated layout into a practical and attractive space.
